Jennifer and Daniel Gebhard

And we will be calling North Carolina home for the next 3 years, starting at the end of June!  Danny opened his envelope at 11am this morning to reveal that Duke University will be the site of his Pediatric Residency.  He has decided to do a fellowship afterwards in Internal Medicine--not sure where that will be, probably Duke.  AMAZINGLY ENOUGH, 4 of Danny's good friends (including his former roommate) also matched to Duke!  We will already have plenty of friends close by.  I am beyond excited about this new adventure and look forward to all of the family and friends visiting!  Thank you for all of the support and encouragement.  We really felt all of the prayers today.  :o)

In an hour and a half Danny will be inducted into AOA, the honors society for his medical school.  We will celebrate by having a nice dinner followed by an awards ceremony.  And then...at 11am tomorrow, we open the envelope that reveals where we will be moving to!!!!  I'm not saying which is my favorite, but our top choices include (in no order):  Seattle, Palo Alto, Philly, Boston, and Duke.  Medical school has been such a long rode full of highs and lows.  Tomorrow will be the conclusion of our Dallas era and the start of our new married life together.  Cheesy, I know, but I'm so excited to share this journey with my new husband!!  Keep fingers crossed and we will post tomorrow where our new address will be!

Love,
Jenn

Greetings from Philadelphia!

Danny and I have begun our residency tour of the US. So far we have seen San Francisco, Seattle, Palo Alto, Denver, Nashville, Durham, Hendersonville, and Philadelphia. On Tuesday, we head off to Chicago for a week and will wind up our trip in Boston. That's 10 cities! Seeing all of these places has been such an incredible trip, but it really reiterates how much I love Austin, TX!

In San Fran and Palo Alto, we stayed with our beloved Domingo. He was really great and put us up for 5 days! We had a blast running around, just like old times. I loved hanging out in Palo Alto at night. The pub we went to was modeled like an old bank. Seattle was one of my favorite cities. It's very serene and has the friendliest people I have ever met while traveling. The food was amazing and everywhere you go is picturesque. It was so pretty, I walked around for 7 miles that day. I have never had such fresh seafood! Denver was a lot of fun, but cold! It is a really affordable city. One cold night Danny and I went venturing and found a local pub that served local beer. For $17 they served us 3 plates of wings and 4 beers! I love the outdoor life in Denver, but it still seemed like a vacationing city to me. Nashville was really pretty! We stayed with Danny's very sweet aunt Mary and her puppy Rusty. Sightseeing was really fun! My favorite was the parthanon structure. :o) The food was great, the music was omnipresent, and everything was also very affordable. We left Nashville to visit beautiful North Carolina (in Durham), where Tommy and Annie live. Milly (her cat) was kind enough to share the guest bedroom with us. Hurley (their puppy) was definitely one of the trip's highlights. He is a french bulldog that melted our hearts! Duke was a gorgeous campus to visit and I loved all of the healthy food served there.

I took a hiatus from the Durham visit to drive up to the mountains to Hendersonville, where my family from my father's side live. It is always such a blessing for us to spend time together because I really cherish the stories I hear of my dad and uncle growing up! It's hard to imagine Larry as a kid. haha. I was also introduced to my new favorite male cat--Colonel Mosby. He is a Russian Blue with a really loving personality! We had such a fun time on that trip!! My uncle let me borrow his discount to stock up on ski clothes, so I wouldn't freeze to death in Chicago. My aunt Barbara took me to try their local brew and to Jump Off Rock, a breath-taking panoramic view of North Carolina. Barbara, my cousin Jess, and I had a delicious dinner with my cousin Michael in Asheville. I was sorry to not be able to spend more time in that city, as I have been told they have 8 local breweries! Jess and I ended the night with a night at the movies. She and I seem to always see the horrible scary movies together! The next morning I got to spend a few hours catching up with my uncle and my aunt over a cup of cinnamon coffee with frothed milk! They spoiled me. It was hard to leave, but I had to return to the blonde.

I hopped in my mini van (yes--the rental place gave me a mini van) and returned to Durham. The scenery on the drive was unparalleled! All of the mountains and huge pine trees were so gorgeous! Tommy, Annie, and Danny picked me up from the rental car place and we ate REALLY good food for lunch, followed by a long nap for all. That night we met up with Jamie Koo, who was also interviewing at Duke, and had some local brew. Somehow we convinced the boys to go see Bridal Wars, which was great!! It was fun watching that with my husband! Recounting all the stuff we went through when planning our own wedding.

And here I sit in Philadelphia. Danny and I arrived yesterday afternoon and I'm already in love. My aunt Barbara grew up here, so she gave me some pointers and places of interest to hit up. Last night Danny and I went to Triumph Tavern for local brew and I had some amazing tomato soup! We walked all over Old Town until I couldn't feel my toes. It's pretty chilly here. The history of this town in amazing. Everywhere I looked, it was "Benjamin Frankin did ___ here" and "George Washington owned this ____." Incredible. Today I am visiting all of the historical markers within walking distance. When Danny is done with his interview, we might take a cab ride across Ben Franklin Bridge so that we can cross that off our list of states yet to visit. I also need to go to H&M. My goal is to visit an H&M in every city I can until they hit Texas and shopping there is no longer a foreign concept.

I'm off to take more pics! Other travel pictures are posted on Picasa.
